To be fair, fill-in bunny wasn't being openly cruel, her tone was friendly, it was just her words. I know that I'm by no means the only person who struggles during class and to have the person who is supposed to be helping us, teaching us, telling us when we're all sweating, panting, red faced that if we don't do it perfectly we're lazy? Wasting our time? Do I really need to describe how that feels. I can't respect someone who repeatedly uses the word 'lazy' when talking through technique. But I can't trust someone who lets me give everything I have and then still demand more. If you want me to do more reps, go for longer, tell me - I'll do it. I rely on and appreciate those little call outs because I know I'm near the end, I know I can push a little further and I know it'll be over soon. So if that ten seconds becomes twenty, I'm going to run out of.well, me.

If you tell me ten more seconds I"m going to give you everything I have for those last ten seconds. I get the mentality, but I don't respect it. Last time I counted down from eight, four didn't happen six times. Fill-in bunny likes the 'one more' ruse, and definitely can't count. I know these are cliche tactics used by trainers to push people further but I've been lucky not to have encountered it myself. If they count us down, it's a straight count down, they don't repeat numbers or start counting back up. If they say "One more!" they mean one more, not six more. The thing I like most about all of the instructors I train with is they all teach honestly. Our regular Saturday bunny is interstate training so we had a fill in bunny, and I wouldn't go a far as to say she is mean, but I was definitely left feeling fragile from her teaching approach. It's my hard day and today was no exception.
